Ousted Ukrainian defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov has announced that he will accept no government position other than his former role. This decision follows his dismissal last week and is escalating a political crisis in Ukraine at a pivotal point in the war with Russia.
Fedorov has rejected all job offers presented by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to rejoin the government in a different role. This move could breathe new fire into nationwide protests backing the popular former minister. Ukrainian MP Liudmyla Buimister stated that reinstating Fedorov is the only right decision the president can make.
The dismissal of Fedorov was part of a broader cabinet reshuffle. In a related change, Mykhailo Drapatyi has been appointed as the new commander-in-chief of Ukraine's armed forces, replacing Oleksandr Syrskyi.
