Israel kills people and destroys towns in southern Lebanon despite ceasefire

A ceasefire agreed in Washington appears to have barely held as Israeli assaults and threats in southern Lebanon escalate. The death toll in Lebanon has risen to over 2,500 people, and the ongoing assault has displaced people across the region.

Towns near the border with Israel have been largely destroyed by Israeli demolitions and strikes. Israel says it has been attacking Hezbollah infrastructure, but civilian infrastructure has also been significantly affected.

The Lebanese government has called out Israel for ceasefire violations. Consequently, Lebanon is building a case against Israel to hold it accountable for alleged violations of international humanitarian law.
