Academy Award-winning Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard has died in a motorcycle crash.
Hansard began his career busking on the streets of his native Dublin as a teenager before forming the popular Irish band The Frames in 1990. He is fondly remembered as the frontman of The Frames, for his solo albums, and for his roles in films including The Commitments and Once.
Combining his acting and musical careers, Hansard won an Oscar in 2007 for the song Falling Slowly from the film Once, in which he starred alongside Markéta Irglová.
Ireland's President Catherine Connolly praised the artist, stating that he was one of Ireland's great singer-songwriters.
