Two paintings by French impressionist master Pierre-Auguste Renoir, stolen from a museum on the French Riviera a month ago, have been recovered. The local mayor announced the recovery on Friday, along with the arrest of six suspects.
The robbery occurred at dawn when thieves broke into the Renoir Museum in southern France. The burglars reportedly cut through a fence and smashed a window to gain entry. While the thieves initially took four paintings valued at over $10 million, they abandoned two of the artworks as they fled.
The recovered works were identified as Madame Colonna Romano and Young Woman at the Well. Authorities stated that the six individuals arrested include the two alleged burglars. Although officials praised those who helped track down the paintings, they did not reveal the specific methods used to find them.
This heist follows a series of high-profile robberies from various museums across Europe.
