Fugitive Malaysian financier Jho Low is seeking a pardon from US President Donald Trump. Low, who has avoided arrest since disappearing from public view in 2015, submitted the pardon application to the US Justice Department this year.
US prosecutors describe Low as the mastermind and architect of one of the largest financial frauds in history. He is accused of orchestrating a scheme that siphoned at least $4.5 billion from Malaysia's sovereign wealth fund, 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
Low faces multiple charges in both the United States and Malaysia, including corruption and money laundering. If the request for a pardon is granted, it would remove the criminal charges against him in the United States.
