Fugitive Malaysian financier Jho Low has requested a pardon from US President Donald Trump. Low is accused by the United States of being the mastermind behind one of the largest financial frauds in history.
Low is allegedly the architect of a scheme that siphoned at least $4.5 billion from 1Malaysia Development Berhad, a Malaysian sovereign wealth fund. As a result, he faces multiple charges in both the US and Malaysia, including money laundering and corruption.
The pardon application was submitted to the US Justice Department this year, with the request filed in recent weeks. If the pardon is granted, it would remove the criminal charges against him in the United States.
