Chelsea have completed the signing of experienced striker Danny Welbeck from fellow Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion. The London side announced the move on Saturday in a deal reported to be worth £5 million.
The 35-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract and is set to link up with Xabi Alonso’s squad during their pre-season tour.
This transfer represents a departure from Chelsea’s general policy of recruiting younger players for development. It is the first time the club has paid a transfer fee for a player over the age of 26 since the 2022 signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona.
In other transfer news, Mali international Sangaré has joined the Bees for a reported £39 million.
