Former first lady Jill Biden stated in a CBS News interview that she feared her husband was having a stroke during his June 2024 presidential debate against Donald Trump. She described being frightened, noting that she had never seen Joe Biden act that way before or since.
During the consequential debate, Biden appeared pale, sounded hoarse, and rambled through his agenda. His shaky, mumbling, and sometimes confused delivery fueled existing voter questions regarding his fitness for a second term.
The disastrous performance eventually ended Biden's bid for re-election. Despite attempts to explain away the performance and reassure voters that he could handle four more years of the demanding job, mounting pressure from within his party led him to step aside. Democrats subsequently nominated Vice President Kamala Harris.
Jill Biden shared these reflections while promoting her upcoming memoir, View from the East Wing: A Memoir, which is due out next week.
