Nepal and China are reeling from catastrophic Himalayan floods that began on August 26, leaving more than 1,300 people dead. As of Monday, the 13th day since the disasters struck, more than 5,500 people remain missing across Nepal and Tibet, including foreign nationals.
Search teams have recently rescued four people as they race to find those still missing. Rescue efforts have increasingly focused on 12 hydropower projects, where approximately 900 workers are missing and roughly 500 are believed to be trapped in various tunnels.
Nepal is holding a day of mourning to remember the victims. Government offices have lowered flags to half-mast, and family members are concluding their mourning rituals.
