meteorology natural disasters

A massive weather system swept through several midwestern cities on Friday, bringing destructive winds and tornadoes that left a trail of devastation across a wide swath of the United States. Forecasters warned that severe thunderstorms could affect areas from northwest Oklahoma through western Missouri, with approximately 26 million people under tornado watches from Wisconsin to Oklahoma.

The storms resulted in significant property destruction, ripping roofs off homes and buildings and uprooting trees. Debris rendered many rural roads impassable as the burst of severe weather battered towns across the central US region.

Officials in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota expressed relief that no deaths were reported following the latest round of severe weather. However, officials warned that residents in some rural communities should brace for a long recovery process.
