Mangione’s Murder Trial Delayed to October

Luigi Mangione, accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, appeared in federal court Wednesday seeking a trial delay.

The federal trial, initially slated for a date near the beginning of October, has been tentatively moved to October 5th. This adjustment provides Mangione and his legal team additional time to prepare, particularly in relation to a separate state murder trial.

Mangione’s state trial, where he faces a murder charge and potential life imprisonment without parole, was previously scheduled for June 8th but has been rescheduled to September 8th. He also faces two federal counts of interstate stalking, carrying a similar potential sentence.

The federal judge’s decision to grant a delay was linked to the ongoing state case. Mangione could face life in prison if convicted in either court.
