Jailed Iranian Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi hospitalized after cardiac crisis

Narges Mohammadi, the imprisoned 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has been urgently transferred from prison to a hospital in northwestern Iran following a catastrophic deterioration of her health. A foundation run by her family reported that the activist was moved on Friday after experiencing a cardiac crisis and suffering two episodes of complete unconsciousness.

As of Sunday, May 3, Mohammadi remains in critical condition in a cardiac care unit. This recent collapse follows a suspected heart attack in late March, leading to growing concern among supporters and sources close to the activist who fear the hospital transfer may have come too late.

Mohammadi is a prominent human rights activist who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her advocacy of freedom and women's rights, as well as her campaign to abolish the death penalty in Iran.
