The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) has declared its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, highlighting a divide in world football. This backing comes despite demands for the president to resign from Uefa, Concacaf, and the Asian Football Confederation. Following an executive committee meeting in Fiji, the OFC issued a statement praising the progress achieved by FIFA over the last decade.
The OFC has welcomed FIFA's decision to ditch the FFE investment proposal and welcomed the review of the failed private investment plan. These developments follow the emergence of an abandoned commercial rights stake sale plan that has placed Infantino under pressure.
However, New Zealand has broken rank with the regional bloc to withdraw its support for Infantino's reelection bid. By going against its own confederation in the FIFA row, New Zealand becomes the latest nation to distance itself from the governing body's leadership over the aborted stake sale plan.
