SpaceX plans to build a new $100 billion launch site on the southern coast of Louisiana. This new spaceport will be the company's second private launch site after its headquarters, Starbase, in South Texas, and will allow SpaceX to expand operations of the behemoth Starship rocket.

The facility, which will be established in Vermillion Parish, is named Starbase LA. According to the company, the site is intended to support thousands of launches annually, as the Starship vehicle is critical to the company's future.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027. SpaceX says that a Starship rocket could take flight from the Louisiana site as soon as 2029.
