President Donald Trump's "Golden Dome for America" missile defense program, which involves placing weapons in space, is estimated to cost $1.2 trillion over a 20-year period. According to a new analysis from a nonpartisan office, this figure is far higher than the initial $175 billion price tag the President provided last year.
The projected cost to deploy and operate the shield is roughly six times above current forecasts. Furthermore, reports indicate that the system would still likely fail to stop an all-out attack.
Although the President has stated the space-based system would be ready by 2029, industry insiders say the project has barely gotten off the ground.
