A shooting occurred Tuesday around 3:30 p.m. at Wilmington Hospital in Delaware, leading to a lockdown of the campus. Two people were shot during the incident, leaving one person dead and another injured.
ChristianaCare, which operates the hospital, diverted patients from its emergency department while taking steps to ensure the safety of patients, caregivers, and visitors. Police chief Wilfredo Campos and chief administrative officer David Karas stated that the situation was treated as an active investigation for a possible active shooter.
While the shooter was initially at large and police did not disclose a possible motive, a suspect has since been arrested in connection with the shooting. Police declined to release the identities of the victims or the condition of the surviving victim.
