Jacob Coxon, a researcher on the AI pretraining team at Anthropic PBC, has resigned from the company. He announced his decision in a series of posts on the social platform X, warning that the artificial intelligence industry is designing tools that humans will soon lose control of.
Coxon stated that his resignation was motivated by concerns that AI labs are gambling with human lives. He expressed that the industry is prioritizing the development of the most advanced models possible over safety.
Having spent three years conducting research at both Anthropic and OpenAI, Coxon claimed that the two companies are more focused on beating each other and global competitors than they are on safety.
