US has finalized $35.5 billion in tariff refunds for importers

The U.S. customs agency has begun issuing the first wave of tariff refunds to importers after the Supreme Court ruled that some of President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs were unlawfully imposed.

The court found the president's signature economic policy to be unlawful and unconstitutional, leading to the ruling that the tariffs were illegally implemented.

According to a Tuesday court filing, the agency had processed $35.46 billion in refunds, including interest, as of May 11. These funds are being issued to importers who successfully filed for refunds after the court knocked down the tariffs imposed last year.
