German federal prosecutors have filed charges against a Ukrainian national in connection with the 2022 sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea. The suspect is accused of helping carry out a series of explosions that severely damaged the infrastructure and is currently in detention awaiting trial.
The Nord Stream network consists of pipelines running under the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany to provide natural gas to Western Europe. These pipelines provided billions to the Kremlin's coffers.
This legal development moves one of Europe's most politically sensitive sabotage cases closer to trial.
