Iga Swiatek captured her first WTA Tour title of the year and 26th overall by defeating second-seeded Elena Rybakina 6-2, 6-3 in the final of the Canadian Open in Toronto. The seventh-seeded Pole was sharp and fast on the hard court, while Rybakina struggled to find her rhythm and was her own enemy for much of the evening.
Swiatek broke Rybakina's serve early and took the first set in just 29 minutes. By maintaining a consistent attack with few errors and excellent range, Swiatek overcame the hard-serving Rybakina, who leads the tour in aces.
Swiatek reached her first final of the season after rallying from a break down in the deciding set to beat Ukraine's Elina Svitolina 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in the semifinals. Rybakina also fought through a three-set semifinal match to reach the final, while both Svitolina and Coco Gauff exited the tournament in the semifinal round.
The victory provides the six-time Grand Slam champion with a confidence boost heading into the U.S. Open. Following the win, Swiatek is projected to move up two spots to sixth in the world rankings.
