Artemis II Crew Return to Earth After Lunar Flyby

science space programs

NASA’s Artemis II mission achieved a historic close approach to the Moon, coming within 6,545km of the lunar surface. This marks NASA’s first crewed mission to the Moon in over 50 years, sending the crew further than any humans have traveled before.

Communication between mission control in Houston and the crew was temporarily lost for approximately 40 minutes as the spacecraft passed behind the Moon. Contact was successfully re-established afterward.

The crew experienced a relatively quiet day as the Lockheed Martin-built Orion capsule began its journey back toward Earth.
