Munich has been voted as the city that will bid for the Summer Olympics in 2036, 2040, or 2044. The city beat a rival bid from the Cologne/Rhine-Ruhr region to become the focus of Germany's push to host the games.
The selection process was launched as a race between four candidates, but it ultimately became a choice between two. Hamburg pulled out of the running in May, and Berlin withdrew on Thursday.
If Munich is chosen by the IOC, it will be the third time Germany has hosted the Olympics. This would bring the Summer Games back to German soil for the first time in more than 60 years, following seven unsuccessful bids since 1972.
