A Sri Lankan court has convicted 15 men for their involvement in coordinating the April 21, 2019, Easter Sunday suicide bomb attacks. Following a long trial, the convicts were each sentenced to at least 200 years in prison, ensuring they will spend the rest of their lives behind bars.
The bombings targeted three churches and three hotels across the country during Easter services and celebrations. Inspired by the Islamic State group, the attacks were among the deadliest in Sri Lanka's history and the worst since the end of the country's civil war in 2009.
The attacks killed between 267 and more than 300 people, including 42 foreigners, and left nearly 600 people wounded.
While 15 men were convicted, the court acquitted nine people. Another defendant was found guilty of only some of the charges.
