Meta Platforms Inc., the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, announced Wednesday that it will invest more than 13 billion Canadian dollars, or 9.1 billion US dollars, to build its first artificial intelligence data center in Canada.

The facility will be located in Sturgeon County, Alberta. This project represents a significant cross-border expansion as the company grows its infrastructure to support its artificial intelligence ambitions.

The Sturgeon County site will be Meta's largest data center outside the United States.
