A shooting involving multiple suspects at Virginia State University prompted a campus lockdown early Saturday morning. Five people were injured in the incident, and one person is currently listed in critical condition.
Police discovered the victims near the university's residence halls and Quad Annexes. While multiple victims were transported to area hospitals, several suspects remain at large. Both campus police and Chesterfield County police are actively investigating the scene.
The shooting has rocked the campus before classes are set to begin on Monday. Located about 20 miles south of Richmond, Virginia State University is a historically Black university with approximately 5,700 students and was the first fully state-supported four-year college for Black Americans.
