Vuelta a Espana leader and five-time Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar has pulled out of the three-week race. The Slovenian cyclist abandoned the competition on Saturday after a crash during stage eight in Xeraco, Spain.

Pogacar suffered a heavy crash that left him with blood on his face and an injured shoulder. Due to the severity of the incident, he had to be taken to a hospital by ambulance.

The withdrawal of the current race leader follows the crash during the eighth stage of the event.
