The Federal Trade Commission, joined by Utah and California, has filed a lawsuit against the telehealth company Hims & Hers. The company, which provides prescriptions for mental health conditions and sexual wellness, is accused of mishandling sensitive consumer data and employing unfair business practices.
According to the complaint filed on July 29, Hims & Hers allegedly used website trackers to share users' most private health information with advertising platforms, including Meta and Snap. Regulators claim that the company led customers to believe their health information would remain private while simultaneously transmitting it to advertising firms.
In addition to the privacy concerns, the FTC alleges that the telehealth platform engaged in improper billing practices. The lawsuit claims the company charged customers without proper consent and made subscriptions deliberately hard to cancel, effectively locking consumers into their services.
