Israel and Hezbollah swap strikes and accuse each other of breaching ceasefire

The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah is fraying as both sides continue to trade attacks almost daily. Since the truce began in mid-April, Israeli strikes have killed at least 40 people in Lebanon. The Israeli government and Hezbollah have traded blame over the breaches of the agreement, which is set to run for several more weeks.

Sunday became the deadliest day since the April 17 ceasefire took effect, with Israeli airstrikes killing at least 14 people, including two women and two children, and wounding 37 others. Israel reported the death of one of its soldiers. On Tuesday, Hezbollah launched several drones at Israeli soldiers in south Lebanon, claiming several were injured, while the Israeli military stated that interceptor missiles were fired at the incoming drones.

The Israeli military has expanded its bombing campaign, carrying out strikes in eastern Lebanon on Monday. This marks the first time the eastern Bekaa Valley has been hit since the April 16 ceasefire. Israel has also issued new displacement orders for south Lebanon. Amidst this escalation, the Iran-linked group has reiterated its defiance, and the Israeli defense minister has threatened to burn all of Lebanon.
