The US Department of Education's office of civil rights has opened an investigation into Smith College, an all-women's institution in Massachusetts, for admitting transgender women.
The probe will determine whether the college violated Title IX, a 1972 law that forbids discrimination based on sex in education.
The department claims the college could be violating federal law by allowing biological males into women's intimate spaces, including dorms, bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams. This investigation is seen as an escalation of the Trump administration's attacks on transgender rights.
