A Chinese industry regulator has warned users of a serious security backdoor risk embedded in specific versions of Claude Code, an AI coding tool developed by the U.S. company Anthropic.

The warning was issued Wednesday by a cybersecurity platform operated by China's industry ministry. The regulator stated that the software poses backdoor vulnerabilities that could allow it to transmit sensitive information to a remote server.

According to the report, a built-in monitoring mechanism could send data, including user locations and identity-related identifiers, back to Anthropic's servers without the consent of the users.
