A major outage hit the Dutch railway system on Tuesday, bringing rail travel in large parts of the country to a standstill. Suspected sabotage disrupted train services across the central and northern parts of the Netherlands during the morning rush hour, resulting in significant cancellations and delays.
ProRail, the Dutch government agency responsible for railway infrastructure, stated that the failure occurred at multiple locations. The agency is treating the incident as deliberate wrongdoing after items were discovered placed on the tracks in around 30 separate places.
The coordinated wave of sabotage paralysed trains on Budget Day. In response, the government has called for an investigation to reveal the perpetrators behind the attacks.
