The United States has lifted sanctions on Delcy Rodriguez, Venezuela’s interim president, marking a significant shift in relations following the ouster of Nicolas Maduro. This action follows Rodriguez taking steps to open Venezuela’s energy sector to US companies.
The warming of ties between the two nations began after Maduro’s capture earlier this year in a raid on the capital. The US Treasury Department removed Rodriguez from its sanctions list, facilitating new American investments.
Recently, the US Embassy in Caracas resumed operations after a seven-year closure, signaling further progress in rebuilding the relationship. The US has exerted growing influence over the Venezuelan government since Maduro’s abduction.
