President Donald Trump announced on Saturday the nomination of Lance Schroyer to serve as the next director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In a Truth Social post, Trump urged the Senate to confirm Schroyer immediately to lead the agency responsible for the administration's deportation efforts.
Schroyer is a former Oklahoma state trooper and United States Marine with over 29 years of law enforcement experience. Trump described him as a patriot, highlighting his background in Oklahoma. Schroyer previously led a deportation campaign in Oklahoma under a program partnered with ICE. He hails from the same home state as the new Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Markwayne Mullin.
If confirmed, Schroyer will replace acting director David Venturella, a former executive at a private prison operator. The leadership vacancy follows the resignation of former ICE director Todd Lyons at the end of May. The agency has been without a Senate-confirmed director since 2017, during Trump's first term, and has not had one since the Obama administration.
