BRICS leaders are meeting in New Delhi for a two-day summit this weekend. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian are scheduled to hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chinese President Xi Jinping is also set to attend the summit.
The gathering will focus on economic challenges and the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East. Along with these conflicts, tensions between the United States and China are expected to test the unity of the group.
The visit by Xi Jinping marks his first trip to India since 2019. A meeting between him and Prime Minister Modi represents the clearest test yet of the tentative post-2020 reset between Asia's two largest economies as India works to balance its ties with both China and Russia.
