Finnish authorities issued a public warning in the early hours of Friday regarding drones possibly entering the airspace near Helsinki. The alert for the capital region led to the scrambling of fighter jets and the suspension of air traffic over the city for three hours.
Military commanders later stated that there was no violation of Finnish airspace. By Friday, officials announced that the suspected drone activity no longer posed a threat and that the situation was returning to normal.
The Finnish defense chief has warned that more alarms may occur as the Russian war persists. These events occur while Europe remains on high alert following an unprecedented scale of drone flyovers into NATO airspace last September, which prompted leaders to agree to develop a drone wall along their borders.
