Sherpa guide missing for a week found alive crawling to Mount Everest base camp

Hillary Dawa Sherpa, a Nepalese guide in his 50s, has been found alive after going missing for nearly a week on Mount Everest. The guide was discovered crawling toward base camp and has since been reunited with his family.

Dawa Sherpa vanished from the upper reaches of the world's highest mountain in bitter conditions around May 29 or 30. He went missing near the so-called Death Zone, an area where oxygen levels are too low to sustain human life for long. While his client successfully reached base camp, the guide did not.

Rescuers confirmed the survival after the guide was found near Everest base camp. His family had already given up hope and begun funeral rituals, believing he had died.
