President Trump and his family are suing federal agencies over the unauthorized release of their tax information. The lawsuit, filed this year, alleges that the IRS failed to take the necessary steps to prevent the leak of these documents.
The tax returns were leaked by a former IRS contractor. In 2024, Charles Edward Littlejohn pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years in prison for leaking the tax information.
Court filings indicate that the parties are currently in talks to find a solution instead of heading to trial. Critics warn, however, that Trump could arrange his own settlement by negotiating with a US Justice Department under his control.
