Uganda's King Oyo Nyimba of Tooro, once world's youngest monarch, dies at 34

King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the leader of the Tooro kingdom in western Uganda, has died at the age of 34. The prime minister of the kingdom announced the death on Thursday, August 28, following an illness.

King Oyo was recognized as the world's youngest reigning monarch after ascending his ancient throne in 1995 at just three years old. As a boy king who took the crown as an infant, he fascinated world leaders during his reign over the enclave.

Prior to his death, the prime minister stated that the king had been in critical condition.
