The Trump administration plans to name longtime immigration official David Venturella as the interim head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson confirmed Tuesday evening that Venturella will replace acting director Todd Lyons, who left the agency last month.
Venturella was promoted to the acting director position from a senior adviser role. He brings extensive experience to the agency, having previously served under the administrations of both George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
Venturella inherits an agency that has been without a Senate-confirmed director since early 2017. Compared to the beginning of President Trump's second term, the agency now possesses a larger workforce and more financial resources, although it continues to face a funding lapse.
