Iranian football chief Mehdi Taj is seeking assurances that his country will be respected if the national team travels to the United States for this summer's World Cup. Taj stated that FIFA, rather than America or Mr. Trump, is the host of the tournament and called for respect toward the nation's delegation.
Taj has specifically demanded guarantees that the Iranian military and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) will not be insulted by the United States. He indicated that such guarantees are necessary if the national team is to travel to the country to play in June.
Iran's participation in the World Cup has been in question since the United States and Israel launched air strikes on the Islamic Republic in late February. Consequently, Taj announced he will meet with FIFA President Gianni Infantino within the next three or four days to seek the necessary assurances.
