Security forces have rescued pupils and staff who were kidnapped nearly two months ago in Nigeria's southwestern Oyo state. A spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu announced the rescue on Friday.

The hostages, consisting of 46 pupils and staff, including at least 39 schoolchildren and six teachers, were abducted on May 15. The victims were taken from three separate schools in the town of Orire by gunmen described as Muslim militants.

The government confirmed that all the individuals kidnapped from the three schools have been rescued.
