An attack on the al-Hadara market in the al-Waziiya district of Taiz province has left at least 30 people dead. Houthi rebels have blamed Saudi airstrikes for the casualties, while government forces and local authorities dispute the claim, instead accusing the Houthis of indiscriminate fire. Taiz has witnessed intense clashes in recent weeks and is home to around half of the more than 300,000 people displaced by the fighting.
Separately, airstrikes in the village of al-Shariya near the capital, Sanaa, have resulted in further civilian deaths. Reports indicate that at least 27 people were killed and 36 wounded, with other accounts citing 22 deaths and 30 injuries, mostly among women and children. The Iran-backed Houthi group has accused Saudi Arabia of targeting several homes in the area.
These attacks underscore the heavy toll on civilians since fighting between the Saudi-backed government and the Houthi rebels reignited. More than 50 people have died in airstrikes believed to be launched by Saudi Arabia, casting a spotlight on the Saudi-led and U.S.-assisted bombing campaign.
Meanwhile, government forces have reclaimed key territories in Taiz and Lahij, though they continue to face setbacks under Houthi resistance in certain areas.
