French Formula One driver Pierre Gasly grabbed a stunning career-first pole position with Renault-owned Alpine at the Italian Grand Prix on Saturday in Monza, Italy.
Gasly delivered one of the biggest surprise pole positions in F1 for years during a sensational qualifying session. The result came as the leading contenders struggled through scrappy qualifying sessions.
The Alpine driver topped the session to claim his first-ever pole position, finishing ahead of Mercedes' George Russell. Gasly will lead the field for Sunday's Italian Grand Prix.
