A woman in Bitonto, southern Italy, recovered a €1 million lottery ticket after mistakenly throwing it in a trash bin. The ticket was discarded at a local tobacconist after a self-service lottery terminal displayed the message "not payable."
Upon realizing she had hit the jackpot, the winner contacted the waste management company, SANB, to request help in retrieving the ticket. Garbage workers launched an extensive search that lasted for more than a day, combing through mounds of rubbish on their truck.
During the process, workers found various tickets and ticket stubs before finally locating the prize, valued at US$1,152,800. Roberto Nicola Toscano, the administrator of SANB in the Puglia region, stated that the ticket was miraculously still in one piece.
