Montenegro arrests Iranian national wanted by US for hacking

Montenegrin police and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested an Iranian-Turkish national in Montenegro on June 26. The suspect was wanted by the United States for conducting mass hacking attacks.

The cyberattacks targeted U.S. infrastructure and allegedly caused $3.4 billion in damages. The operation to detain the suspect was a collaborative effort between the FBI and Montenegrin police.

The suspect is accused of participating in a hacking campaign dating back to 2013. As part of these activities, the individual is alleged to have helped steal data from more than 150 U.S. universities.
