An overloaded ferry capsized on Zimbabwe's Lake Kariba on Tuesday, killing at least 15 people and leaving 27 missing, according to the national disaster management agency.
Authorities report that 77 people were rescued and made it to a small island on the lake. Boats are currently being dispatched to bring the survivors back.
Zimbabwe’s Civil Protection Unit stated that the ferry was carrying more than its capacity of 90 people when it capsized. Locals use the ferry to travel from rural parts of the region to the town of Kariba, which is located on the north side of Lake Kariba near the border with Zambia.
