Syria's interior ministry announced Friday that security forces have arrested Amjad Youssef, a former intelligence officer and regime official. Interior minister Anas Khattab stated that Youssef was taken into custody following a carefully executed security operation in the countryside about 30 miles outside the city of Hama.
Youssef is identified as the main suspect in the 2013 Tadamon massacre, one of the worst acts of violence attributed to the former government of Bashar al-Assad. An estimated 288 civilians were killed during the slaughter.
The former official had become one of the country's most-wanted fugitives after the fall of Bashar al-Assad. He was previously linked to a video leaked four years ago that purportedly showed him and his comrades fatally shooting dozens of blindfolded civilians during the country's conflict.
