Novo Nordisk, the maker of Wegovy and Ozempic, has filed a lawsuit against rival Eli Lilly & Co. in a U.S. federal court. The legal action, launched on Tuesday, accuses the U.S. drugmaker of false advertising as competition between the two companies escalates.
Novo Nordisk claims that Eli Lilly's advertisements for its diabetes injection Mounjaro and obesity shot Zepbound are misleading. Specifically, the lawsuit alleges that Lilly used outdated and bad clinical trial data to make its GLP-1 medicines appear more effective than Novo Nordisk's products.
In response to these deceptive practices, Novo Nordisk has asked the court to permanently stop Eli Lilly from running the ads. Additionally, the company is requesting that the court require Eli Lilly to issue corrective advertising.
