Amy Acton, the Democratic candidate for Ohio governor, was the target of an attack on Sunday afternoon during a campaign stop at the annual Canfield Fair in Mahoning County, near Youngstown. Several people were injured when an armed assailant lunged at Acton.
According to Mahoning County Democratic Party Chairperson Chris Anderson and campaign officials, the suspect knocked volunteers to the ground before he was arrested. Upon his arrest, it was discovered that the suspect had weapons.
The attack drew swift condemnation from Governor Mike DeWine and Acton's Republican opponent. The incident occurs as the Ohio gubernatorial race, one of the most high-profile races this year, enters the final weeks of campaigning before the November election.
