Google announced on Thursday the launch of a new sign-in feature that allows users to provide a short selfie video to confirm their identity. This addition to existing login options is intended to help users access their accounts when usual methods fail.
The selfie video option specifically targets account recovery for those who find themselves locked out. It provides an alternative for users who have forgotten their passwords or lack access to their preferred devices, such as a lost phone or computer, or recovery codes sent to inactive emails.
Setting up the feature requires a short online process. In addition to account access and recovery, Google noted that these selfie videos can be used for age verification and AI Avatars.
