Trump pauses Strait of Hormuz operation in push for Iran deal

defense & military

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he has paused Project Freedom, a U.S. military effort to guide and escort commercial and stranded ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

The pause comes after only one day of operation and follows a request from mediator Pakistan and other countries. President Trump stated the move is intended to see if an agreement with Iran to end the war can be finalized and signed.

However, a U.S. blockade on Iranian ports will remain in force. The U.S. will now operate defensively to enforce the naval blockade.
